Partner’s interview: Cognigron/ University of Groningen

The partners from the University of Groningen and the CogniGron research center, who lead the development of epitaxial oxides for our project, recently gave their opinion on CONCEPT.

Tell us more about the very beginning of CONCEPT – the proposal, setting up the team, and your very first impressions.

I was very pleased when Henrik contacted us to be part of CONCEPT. His group is doing research that is unique worldwide, and I felt privileged to be able to contribute to these developments.

How do you think the CONCEPT project will provide a new ICT paradigm and achieve its goals?

Henrik’s group demonstration of epitaxial growth of nickelates by ALD at CMOS compatible temperatures is a breakthrough that can lead to a revolution in chip fabrication. CONCEPT is meant to show that the concepts used by the Oslo group can be generalized to other materials. Being able to integrate epitaxial oxides on CMOS will allow new functionalities, smaller devices, less power consumption and more.

What is the main result that CONCEPT will deliver?

Recipes and clear guidelines for the ALD growth of new materials that are compatible with the CMOS processes.
