IMB Research Europe is partner responsible for establishing ferroelectric devices for applications in dedicated hardware for artificial intelligence and for future computing technology. We asked them their view on the CONCEPT project and they provided amazing insight.
Tell us more about the very beginning of CONCEPT – the proposal, setting up the team, and your very first impressions.
The project was awarded based on the second submission of the proposal. For IBM, the first submission was driven by a former colleague. Stepping in later was an excellent experience, linking to the consortium and the coordinator. At the kickoff meeting early 2024 in Oslo, a good sense of collaboration was established. This also because for me, the project consists of new partners but also groups we have been interacting with since many years.
How do you think the CONCEPT project will provide a new ICT paradigm and achieve its goals?
The project CONCEPT is exploring new materials, their growth using atomic layer deposition and applications. All aspects are very important in today’s semiconductor technology. CONCEPT can make a difference by focusing on deposition techniques for new materials with state-of-the-art properties, considering sustainability and quality aspects.
What is the main result that CONCEPT will deliver?
New materials and devices for semiconductors realized through atomic layer deposition techniques.
